Summer is coming to an end and kids are ready to return to school. This is an exciting time for parents and children alike. There are many families that have been displaced due to fire and water losses throughout our state. We at Michigan Fire Claims Inc. would like to wish all our clients with students a safe and happy school year knowing the difficulty they have of relocating or waiting for their lives to get back to normal due to these tragedies.

It is very difficult being a Detroit sports fan. Having seasons tickets to the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Redwings, Detroit Lions and Detroit Pistons has its perks, but it is very difficult to enjoy the games when these teams struggle. The Detroit Tigers started the first half of the season on a tear and now are struggling with a mounting lossing streak and injuries. I wish them well and hope they change things around soon. I can only expect the Detroit Lions to follow in the same path they have been for fifty years, and can see the Detroit Pistons rebuilding. The only bright spot are the Detroit Redwings and we can count on them competing for years to come.

Answering the question of why mortgagees appear on any structure payments issued to policyholders on insurance claims in Michigan. Most homeowner and buisness structure policies protect the mortgagee in what is known as the mortgage clause. The mortgagee also includes trustee or loss payee. If the mortgagee is named in the policy, then any the mortgagees interest would be protected and their name would appear on any instruments of payment by the insurance company. There is also language written in most policies that will pay mortgagee’s an interest even when a claim is denied. I would advise any policyholder to read the mortgage clause section of their policy verify those specific conditions and terms.

The damage created by the tornado in Dundee this past week was unimaginable . We spent several days consulting with city officials and tornado victims on how to file proper claims. Several homeowners requested claim help. Our company is doing as much as we can for all the victims involved. I will update more on this subject on future postings.

Fire victims with no insurance can find fire help through the Red Cross. The Red Cross normally provides assistance with housing and vouchers to purchase food and clothing at local stores. We have made significant contribution to the Red Cross and several shelters throughout our State. I would encourage any company or individual to donate if they can. The Red Cross can always use our donations to help at any catastrophy.

After a loss, insureds should make every attempt to secure the property from any additional damage or theft and keep a record of costs. Many investors and homeowners are unaware that their policies will reimburse them for theses expenses. There are many examples of individules not protecting there property and insurance companies not wanting to pay for missing items after the fact.
