I have been asked many times what is and why are in insurance companies requesting and exam under oath. An examination under oath is an insurance companies way of attempting to gather information from an insured to not pay their claim. It is as simple as that. An insurance company has a right under the policy and will frequently ask for an exam under oath when they want to be difficult. An insured has the right to be represented during the process and should further explore those options.

There have been a lot of questions on what insurance companies cover and policy limitations on flooded basement. Several calls have been recieved from the Grand Rapids, Saginaw, Bay City areas in regards to water damge in their basements. Most home insurance policies have endorsements that limit the amount of recovery due to water backup. When the damage occurs from a broken pipe, the actual dwelling limit on the policy is in full affect. You should always contact your agent to be aware of the policy language and limitations on your policy.

Fire victims with no insurance can find fire help through the Red Cross. The Red Cross normally provides assistance with housing and vouchers to purchase food and clothing at local stores. We have made significant contribution to the Red Cross and several shelters throughout our State. I would encourage any company or individual to donate if they can. The Red Cross can always use our donations to help at any catastrophy.

The Denby family suffered a fire in Cadillac Michigan and requested help to determine if a land contract was as effective as purchasing through conventional means in replacement of the home they owned that was destroyed by fire.
Under Michigan law, a deed does not need to be recorded to be effective as between the parties to the deed. Evans v Holloway Sand & Gravel, Inc., 106 Mich App 70, 308 NW2d 440 (1981)

Help for fire and water claims victims in Norther Michigan will be easier with a possible branch office in the Gaylord or Grayling area this coming summer. There has been a tremendous need for Public and Private Adjusters by insureds requesting estimates and help after their losses. I would like to thank Dave Sears in Gaylord for helping James Davis who suffered a fire and was not insured outside of Grayling. Dave provided shelter and money to the family.

The New Year at Michigan Fire Claims started with a pretty busy week. Having been retained on a party store fire in Flint, 2 homeowner fires in Detroit, a water loss in Troy, and a homeowner fire loss in Pontiac has kept our crew work hard in this frigid weather. I would like to thank my team for braving the cold throughout the estimate process.

Michigan Fire Claims Inc. would like to congratulate our clients, the Hoose family, on their new set of twins, born the same day they moved in their new home in Kalamazoo. The family suffered a fire loss last year and Michigan Fire Claims Inc. was able to recover from the insurance company the amounts needed to demolish and rebuild the home rather than repair and clean (which the insurance company was pushing).
